Writing Composite (2017)
In my second year at Notre Dame, I have had the opportunity to write for documentaries and special moments. The first two selections in my composite are from a half-hour show on how the Notre Dame vs. Stanford rivalry came to be and what makes it special today. In the next selection, I wrote not only for narration in the finished feature, but also for a live audience. In this piece, I led the creative execution of a military reunion with our starting point guard. It was important to me to make this surprise a live event where the crowd knew something our athletes did not. I wrote for Bo Farrell, the returning soldier, and the PA announcer to carefully craft economical story progression and build anticipation. The feature closes with an ode to the title “Home”. My final two selections are from documentaries covering the dramatic 1966 National Championship team, and Notre Dame’s deep relationship with the Army. Writing each day for a campus full of rich storylines and emotion is both an honor and a challenge.
